If you've recently fallen in love with the "sport of kings" or simply wish to revisit the fundamentals that enthralled you in the first place, this is the book for you.
In Betting on Horse Racing for Dummies, Richard Eng somehow delivers the "rosetta stone" equivalent for horse racing -- breaking down the complex sport and art of handicapping into 26 trim chapters.
I wish this book was on the market when I fell in love with racing nine years ago.

Congratulations to Richard Eng who has managed to create an all-inclusive primer on enjoying the "Sport of Kings". I liked the book, even though I consider myself a journeyman handicapper and have been following the sport for a few years. In each chapter there is something that I was not aware of (e.g. Acey-deucy Jockeys) -- or not exactly sure about -- and his crisp, clear and sometimes humorous style makes for easy and enjoyable reading.
I think the key to this book is that the author managed to select topics that are meaningful to those wishing to develop their handicapping skill and then he explains them in a way that makes them truly understandable -- even for dummies! No deep math -- no complicated formulas -- just good information and tips that are useful.
I would recommend this book for all novices to the sport(or as a gift for one), for those who want to brush up on their skill set and even for those "professional railbirds" who think they've seen it all.
P.S. I would have included Delaware Park in the list of 10 Best Tracks ;)
