The Casino Answer Book
by John Grochowski
Customer Reviews
Informative AND easy to read, September 21, 1998
Reviewer: A reader
This is an amazing book. It's so entertaining and easy to read you don't even realize how much you're learning. The author asks questions I'd never even thought of, then he answers them so clearly and logically that I had no trouble absorbing the information. I've read a lot of blackjack books and was never really clear on the whys behind some of the recommendations. With this book, now I know what all the others were talking about.

The authors give the reader a comprehensive understanding of how Video Poker machines are programmed and how they function. They also give three strategies for optimum play which are excellent guidelines for conservative players to those willing to take higher risks. Their advice on play is good common sense.

Professional Video Poker
by Stanford Wong
Customer Reviews
One of the Standard References *****, December 9, 2004
Reviewer: Richard York
"Professional Video Poker" by Stanford Wong along with "Video Poker-Optimum Play" by Dan Paymar and the venerable "Winning Strategies for Video Poker" by Lenny Frome are the standard references on how to play video poker. If you can, you should buy and read all three of them.
If you can only afford the time and money for one book, you might want consider "How to Gamble at The Casinos Without Getting Plucked Like a Chicken" by James Harrison Ford. In addition to telling you which video poker games to play and how to play them, it covers a variety of other casino games. Another possibility is to get one of the better video poker computer programs.
The interesting thing about video poker games is that you really can make money playing them... IF you know what you are doing and have a big enough bankroll to do it. Any of these standard video poker books can show you how.
Video poker has been called the crack cocaine of gambling simply because it is almost mesmerizing - fortune seems to be just one click away. The combination of frequent small payoffs, occasional medium size payoffs and the possibility of a big win - a Royal Flush - keeps most players riveted to the machines, feeding them more and more money in the hope of hitting that big one.
Just make sure that you do your homework before you start stuffing money into the video poker machines. It will save you money in the long run and make playing a lot more fun.

The Video Poker Answer Book: How to Attack Variations on a Casino Favorite
by John Grochowski
Customer Reviews
Makes learning video poker painless, December 1, 2000
Reviewer: Sandy Decker (Des Moines, IA)
I've heard and read so often that with the right strategy you can actually come out ahead if you play video poker, but until now, have not been able to get a handle on a strategy. This book helped me tremendously. Not only did I learn to play better video poker, I actually had fun reading the book and learning. The quiz format made it painless. I've read other video poker books, but I always found it a bit grueling working my way through all the charts and calculations. John Grochowski makes it easy. He uses anecdotes to illustrate certain points and they serve as great memory triggers. The book has already helped me improve my play at some of the casinos near my home. I can't wait for my next trip to Vegas. I recommend the video Poker Answer Book to anyone who wants a better understanding of the game and how to play it. Fine learning tool.

Victory at Video Poker

Customer Reviews
Finally a Video Poker Book that Makes SENSE, December 23, 2003
Reviewer: A reader
The strategies in this book are written in plain English and are easily memorized and understood. You would think a book such as this would be dry but Scoblete has enough filler material in addition to the strategies that the book is actually quite enjoyable to read. And it has improved my video poker game immensely.

Scoblete is victorious!!!!!!!! This was the first book I picked up written by him, because it was recommended by several of my friends. I figured he was just another gambling writer......but I was wrong. He is amazing!!!! I've never read anything like it!!! I read 2 more of his books after this one, and I only had great things to say. I'll definately be reading more of them. Scoblete is magnificent.

Video Poker: Optimum Play
by Dan Paymar
Spotlight Reviews
First-Rate Tutorial/Reference *****, December 9, 2004
Reviewer: Richard York
"Video Poker-Optimum Play" by Dan Paymar is a first-rate tutorial/reference on how to play most of the common varieties of video poker. This book along with "Professional Video Poker" by Stanford Wong and the venerable "Winning Strategies for Video Poker" by Lenny Frome are the standard references on how to play video poker.
These solid video poker books make the points:
1) Some video poker games can be beaten.
2) Some video poker games are sucker bait.
3) Winning consistently requires informed play.
4) For every hand, there is only one "best play".
5) The best play is often different for different games.

Video Poker: Play Longer with Less Risk
by Carol Costa
Customer Reviews
Now I Love Playing Video Poker!, September 1, 2004
Reviewer: S. J. Smith "Author" (Scottsdale, Az United States)
I always had a good time at the Poker machines; but in the past not only have I NOT won, I've never been able to make my budgeted funds last as long as I'd like them to. What fun it was to take Carol's tips to the casino and try them out. Not only did I play longer, I took home all of my money, and some of "theirs" too. Even if that might not happen every single time, these new techniques just make the trips to the casino a lot more fun. Woo-hoo!
Great System, August 27, 2004
Reviewer: Avid Reader (California)
Costa's system really works. After reading this book, I went to the casino, tried it out and came home a winner. In addition, the book was easy to read and very entertaining. I highly recommend it!!

If you are just learning video poker including the basics this might make a nice supplement but I found it to be oversimplified and in desperate need of supplemental reading.

Million Dollar Video Poker
by Bob Dancer
Spotlight Reviews
Don't Be Confused; This Is Not A "How To" Guide!!, August 7, 2004
Reviewer: chris meesey (Garland, TX United States)
Many would-be video poker players, looking for the perfect guide that will teach them how to play better, will consider Bob Dancer's book, Million Dollar Video Poker. However, this is not a "how to" book, this is a "how I did it" book. In other words, a loose biography and chronicle of how Bob Dancer built a small starting bankroll into over a million dollars in the space of a few years. Not coincedently, he also found a second career as a writer, teacher, and expert on the subject of this comparatively new casino game; the income from these peripheral endeavors supplements his gambling bankroll nicely during lean times. The prospective video poker player should obtain this book ASAP, for it contains valuable insights into money management, dedication, persistence, and the use of advanced math skills to successfully calculate whether a particular game is beatable or not by considering the perks from various casino promotions (such as double points on a royal flush), calculated in with the machine's basic win
percentage when played perfectly. Readers of Dancer's columns in Casino Player and Strictly Slots magazines will also love reading the story of his unique and quite wonderful courtship of wife Shirley, a beautiful lady and a perfect partner to boot. One note of caution: Dancer is not shy to take advantage of a casino's mistakes, from an incorrectly programmed machine to overly generous change girls; players who take a very black and white view of ethics will not benefit from this book. Million Dollar Video Poker is best purchased in conjunction with one of Bob's own video poker software tutorials, available from several internet sites including www.bobdancer.com. Get these valuable casino goodies today, and start building your own million dollar bankroll right away.

I love Video Poker, December 18, 2001

It was a good tutor type book, I read it some time ago, decided to review it to see what I forgot. I was hoping to get another book by him or a similar book. I am not a big winner, but the book helped me to at least hold my own while playing.
If you are going to play, get this book!
